Medicines worth only Rs 13,000 used in Kharipati quarantine: Nepal Army

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army (NA) has stated that a total of Rs 13,179 has been spent on medicines for 202 people including 175 students rescued from Wuhan, China and kept at quarantine Kharipati, Bhaktapur.

The army has released the details of the expenditure on Thursday after media reports claimed that the national army had spent a huge amount of money on medicine in Kharipati quarantine.

Out of Rs 12.9 million allocated for quarantine management at the quarantine, Rs 5.51 million was allocated for food and Rs 7.39 million for medicines and medical items, NA said in a statement.

Out of which, Rs 333,010 has been spent on the purchase of medicines and Rs 6.3 million has been spent on the purchase of pharmaceutical items and Rs 728,048 is remaining.

The army said Rs 333,010 was spent on the purchase of medicines and medicines worth Rs. 13,179 were used and the remaining medicines worth Rs 319,830 have been stocked.

The medical items procured from Rs 6.30 million were mainly to be used by health workers, security personnel, waste management and others in regular work in quarantine. Out of this, medical items worth Rs 2.33 have been stoked, it stated.
