Three went missing in Sunkoshi, Mahakali rivers



DARCHULA: A 31-year-old woman from Darchula district who jumped into the Mahakali River on Sunday noon has gone missing since then.

Kushma Thapa of Mahakali Municipality-7 in the district had jumped into the River which borders Nepal with India. The reason behind her suicidal act has not been ascertained. A team of police personnel had launched a search for the missing woman but to no avail.

According to the District Police Office (DPO), Darchula’s Information Officer Surendra Prasad Joshi, only a mobile phone was found in the place from where the woman jumped into the River.

This is the second incident of jumping into Mahakali River since the nationwide lockdown order in the country to prevent spread of COVID-19, according to the DPO, Darchula.

Likewise, two youth have gone missing while swimming in Sunkoshi river in Sindhuli district today. Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Bahadur Khatri said that Dinesh Budha Chhetri, 19, and Janak Budha Chhetri, 20, of Panchakoti Municipality in Surkhet district and currently working in a sawmill at Phikkal Rural Municipality in Sindhuli district went missing while swimming near Kuhibhir. Police said that a search for those missing persons is ongoing.
