NC President Deuba urges govt to endorse MCC without delay

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba today alleged the incumbent government for dilly-dallying to endorse the much-talked-about MCC (Millennium Challenge Corporation) from the parliament.

The MCC compact project is the largest grant assistance of US$ 500 million meant for Nepal, which the government has not been able to endorse it despite suggestions from all quarters of the society, including the main opposition party, Nepali Congress.

Taking part in a discussion on the government’s policies and plans presented on Friday, Deuba said the government must be honest and serious in endorsing the MCC compact project through the parliament and expedite it at the earliest.

“I strongly urge the government to include the MCC in the government’s policies and plans, table and endorse it from the parliament at the earliest,” Deuba said accusing the government of setting a wrong trend by not giving continuity to the decisions of the previous governments.

The agreement was signed by the government led by the Nepali Congress and the then CPN-Maoist Center. “

Even Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali has emphasized the need to endorse the MCC at any cost from the parliament.

Enlisted as the national pride project, the MCC has come to the public debate with some suspicions arising from a section of the ruling Nepal Communist Party.

The MCC’s Nepal Compact is particularly designed to increase the availability of electricity and lower the cost of transportation in the country.
