KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has asked the government to arrange to ensure relief assistance to people facing trouble due to the extension of lockdown amid novel coronavirus and facilitating them to reach homes safely.

NC party, the main opposition, has emphasized the need of state’s support to people heading homes on foot during lockdown.

Issuing a press statement on Friday, the party said this was not the time to ‘watching’ for a human tragedy but to act.

The party said life in the villages is becoming painful owing to the extension of lockdown while urging the government to ensure people’s basic needs.

The NC party has also demanded a special relief package for landless workers, people, students and unemployed residing in rented rooms in Kathmandu.

Likewise, the party has also urged government to expand the coronavirus testing coverage and introduce some relief assistance to prevent people from hunger.
