Dav Whatmore appointed Nepali cricket Head Coach



KATHMANDU: Dav Whatmore of Australia has been appointed as the Head Coach of the Nepali National Cricket Team.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Thursday picked Whatmore to the post. Whatmore is currently the Head Coach of Singapore.

The cricket governing body has not revealed Whatmore’s tenure as Nepal’s Head Coach.

On his appointment as a Head Coach of Nepal Dav Whatmore’s manager Kaustav Lahiri said “Dave is extremely keen to take this new challenge co/so strongly believes Nepal has some great talent and has a very bright future in cricket. Nepal is a beautified country and Dav is looking forward to have this new challenge with a bunch a young talent of Nepal.”

Whatmore is a Sri Lanka born Australian cricket coach and former cricketer. He was the Head coach of Sri Lanka when Sri Lanka won the Cricket World Cup in 1996. He is an old boy of the prestigious Royal College Colombo.

A right-handed batsman, Whatmore played seven Test matches for Australia in 1979, and one One Day International in 1980. At first-class level, he scored over 6,000 runs for Victoria.

The association has appointed Raunaq Bahadur Malla as General Manager, Ramesh Kumar Neupane as Chief Finance Officer, and Binod Kumar Das as Cricket Manager with effect from January 1, 2021.
