Constitutional Council meeting postponed



KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Constitutional Council convened by Prime Minister KP Oli for Thursday evening has been postponed.

Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had reached Baluwatar to meet another Chairman and Prime Minister Oli after the meeting was summoned the next day the Prime Minister agreed to repeal the newly-introduced ordinance.

The meeting was postponed after ‘Prachanda’ suggested Oli to postpone the meeting.

Prime Minister Oli had on Wednesday agreed to withdraw the ordinance. A Standing Committee of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had also decided to repeal the ordinance.

The Constitutional Council chaired by Prime Minister consists of the Speaker, Chairperson of the National Assembly, Chief Justice, Leader of the Opposition, and the Deputy Speaker as members. The council makes recommendations for the appointment of officials to various constitutional bodies.
