Police can tap phone call any time it deems necessary

KATHMANDU: The government can now record people’s telephone conservations at any time it deems necessary.

It has been possible following a provision made in the draft of the new telecommunation act.

According  to the provision, an authorized agency can tap the pone calls and record conversations of a person involved in criminal activities.

The draft prepared by Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTC), the regulatory body, has now  reached the Ministry of  Communication and Informaton Technology.

The draft will be submitted to the Council of Ministers following consultations with the Ministry of Finance  and the Ministry of Law, said Hari Prasad Basyal, secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
