Today’s cabinet meeting may appoint Kulman Ghising: Minister Pun

KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsaman Pun has said a cabinet meeting scheduled for today is likely to reappoint Kulman Ghising as the Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

Minister Pun’s statement has come at a time when there have been speculations whether the government will reappoint Ghising.

“I had taken the proposal for the reappointment of Kulman Ghising to the cabinet on Sunday itself,” said Minister Pun, adding, “The cabinet meeting held on Monday did not appoint Ghising. Today’s meeting might appoint him.”

Minister Pun clarified that Ghising’s reappointment was delayed since the Prime Minister wanted to know about the legal processes for his reappointment.

Now, the ball is in the court of the prime minister regarding the reappointment of Ghising.

Ghising’s four-year term expired on Sunday. The Nepal Electricity Authority has already bid adieu to Ghising.

A large section of Nepali people have been demanding the reappointment of Ghising as the Managing Director of NEA due to his extraordinary jobs he performed during his tenure.

He won the hearts of millions of Nepali people after he ended the 18-hour-long load-shedding, reduced loss of electricity from 25.78 percent down to 15.27 percent and made the authority as one of the most profit-making institutes of Nepal.
