US Embassy cancels DV and non-immigrant visa applications

KATHMANDU: The United States Embassy in Kathmandu says it is canceling routine Diversity Visa (DV) and nonimmigrant visa appointments as of March 17, 2020.

According to the US Embassy in Kathmandu, it will resume routine visa services as soon as possible. It said that the embassy is unable to provide a specific date at this time.

The Machine Readable Visa (MRV) fee, the embassy said, is valid and may be used for a visa application in the country where it was purchased within one year of the date of payment.

The embassy has also suggested contacting [email protected] to request an emergency appointment.

Meanwhile, stating that the Department of State has no greater responsibility than the safety and security of U.S. citizens overseas, including providing information to help U.S. citizens make informed decisions about traveling abroad, it has advised U.S. citizens to reconsider travel abroad at this time due to the global impact of COVID-19.

On March 11, President Donald Trump signed a proclamation that restricts travel to the United States from foreign nationals who have recently been in certain European countries.
