NCP Standing Committee meeting begins

PM Oli agrees to withdraw ordinance; Prachanda to withdraw signatures demanding special session of parliament

KATHMANDU: The Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has begun at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is also attending the meeting, Baluwatar sources said adding that PM Oli has agreed to withdraw the ordinance on the Constitutional Council brought by the government on Tuesday.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Oli refused to attend the meeting due to lack of understanding between him and another chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Meanwhile, PM Oli agreed to attend the Standing Committee meeting after holding one-on-one meeting with Dahal.

Likewise, Dahal has also agreed to withdraw the signatures demanding the special session of the parliament that has been sent to the President’s Office, Shital Niwas.

The disgruntled faction had been demanding that the ordinance should be withdrawn as Prime Minister and Chairman KP Oli introduced it without holding discussions on it in the party.

The intra-party dispute of the ruling NCP had further deepened after the government introduced an ordinance without holding discussions in the party.

Majority of SC members had held discussions at Khumaltar yesterday immediately following the issuance of the ordinance.
