KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is in minority in the party, intends to remain in power by taking advantage of constitutional loopholes.

Already mired in intra-party disputes, the issuance of an ordinance by the government on Tuesday further fanned the flames of the party’s feud.

According to Baluwatar sources, the Standing Committee meeting of the party called for today will  direct Prime Minister Oli to withdraw the ordinance.

On the other hand, Oli is adamant not to listen to the direction of the SC meeting.

It is learnt that Oli is making preparations to relieve Parliamentary Party Chief Whip Dev Prasad Gurung of his post and appoint former Minister and lawmaker of Kaski Khagaraj Adhikari to the post.

According to sources, Oli is feeling insecure that a motion of no confidence might be lodged against him in the parliamentary party and the parliament. Hence, he is preparing to bring some other ordinances to entrench himself in power.

He might introduce an ordinance on party split including some other transitional ordinances if the party directed him to withdraw the ordinance related to the Constitutional Council.

Earlier, Oli had been in controversy after he introduced the ordinance on party split. He had withdrawn it following pressures from all quarters through the Cabinet meeting.
