Home Ministry directs DAOs to stop crowd at temples, shrines

KATHMANDU: Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all District Administration Offices (DAOs) to ensure that there is no crowd in temple and shrines during the Dashain period.

It has further asked all to confine the celebration in regular rituals alone.

Issuing directives to all DAOs, the Ministry has directed them to make people aware about the possibility of COVID-19 pandemic transmission especially due to the close contact with the infected people in the crowd in temples and shrines.

“The chances of coronavirus pandemic transmission are always high in the crowd in temples and shrines,” Chandra Bahadur Budha, the Spokesperson of the Ministry said, “Hence, we have written to all DAOs to ensure that there is no crowd in such places.”

Earlier, the Ministry for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation had written to CCMC asking it to recommend the opening of the temples and shrines.

Before the government makes any decision of this effect, the Home Ministry has directed to discourage the crowd and carry out only the regular rituals in the holy places.
