African national nabbed from Thamel on fraud allegation

Took Rs. 4.8 million from Nepali girls promising to marry them



KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Kathmandu has nabbed an African national Silva Antonio Di Costa on fraud allegation from Thamel, Kathmandu recently.

According to Metropolitan Police sources, Di Costa, a national from African nation Republic De Anogla has allegedly taken Rs 4.8 million from 3 Nepali girls promising to marry them.

Sources informed that with his name as Mark Eron in Instagram, he first established connection with a Nepali girl. He introduced himself as doctor working in Bupa Cromwell Hospital, London and won their trust soon.

Using the social network, he sent tempting photo of a diamond ring, expensive watch, gold necklace and 230 thousand pound as the gift meant to give the girl marrying him on Nepali New Year.

The photo in instagram tempted the young girl so much that she deposited the amount demanded by the young man as he claimed that he needed some money to clear custom and pay for the exchange charge.

As demanded by the fraud, the girl deposited more than Rs 4.85 million on different attempts.

According to the police sources, the young woman came to complain police after the man remained out of contact after getting money.

When the Costa (the young man) contacted the girl in a long interval and asked the girl to come with Rs 2 million at Everest Hotel, she went there with the police.

However, when the police reached there, Costa was not there. In the meantime, he called the girl at Soaltee Hotel where the police arrested him.

Costa is found to have duped more girls and collected money from them. He is also believed to have been involved in making and dispatching counterfeit currency as the police seized the bundle of paper used to make fake currency.

Police have also seized 900 US dollar, ATM Cards, laptop, chemical, tape and bundle of paper used to make fake currency.

Fraud Costa had come to Nepal on March 7, 2020.

Nepal Police has started the investigation on the case taking 5 days permission to keep in the custody.
