97 people killed in landslides in past one month



KATHMANDU: As many as 97 people have been killed and 43 are missing in landslides across the country in the past one month.

The National Disaster Reduction and Management Authority said 83 people have been injured in the natural disaster.

According to the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Anil Pokharel, as many as 17 people have been killed by lightning strikes in the past one month.

Likewise, three persons were killed and one missing in a landslide at Kaligandaki in Syangja district, and nine people were killed in a landslide in Parbat on June 13.

Meanwhile, as many as 11 people have been killed in Tanahun district.

Likewise, more than 7,000 people have been displaced due to landslides and floods triggered by incessant rains across the country in the last one week.

Those displaced are from Rautahat, Sapatari, Sankhuwasabha, Lamjung, Jajarkot, Sindhupalchowk, Maygdi and Jhapa districts.

As many as 2,500 people from 500 houses have been shifted to safer areas in Rautahat district after the floods inundated the district.
