Lawmaker Sarita Giri stopped at Nepal- India border

KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party leader and lawmaker Sarita Giri was stopped at Nepal-India border at Thadi while she was trying to enter India on Tuesday.

SP Uma Shankar Chaturbedi, the Chief of Siraha Police confirmed the news that lawmaker Sarita Giri was stopped when she tried to enter India from Siraha’s Thadi checkpoint.

“Lawmaker Giri was trying to enter India from Thadi checkpoint,” he said, “However, as that is not the border point India has opened for its nationals willing to return India, the police stopped her there.”

Giri was widely criticized by the public for her anti-nationalist comment related to Nepal’s reclaim on its territory lying in Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani including those parts in its map. Giri had opposed the decision and had become the subject to many street protests.

India is lawmaker Giri’s parental home.

The Indian government has opened Jogbani or Raxaul checkpoint for its nationals willing to enter Bihar.
