SC acquits players including Sagar Thapa of match-fixing

KATHMANDU: The Supreme has delivered clean chit to all the players, including the former captain of the national football team Sagar Thapa, in the match-fixing charges.

The police had arrested the players including the then captain Sagar Thapa on 14 October 2015 on the charge of match-fixing in international football competitions with different countries.

A joint bench of Justices Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Bamkumar Shrestha on Tuesday upheld the special court’s decision and questioned the legal basis of the case against them.

The then captain of the football team Sagar Thapa, vice-captain Sandeep Rai, goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa, Vikas Singh Chhetri, former players Anjan KC and David Thapa got the final clean chit.
