Police may open fire if COVID-19 patients escape in Birgunj

KATHMANDU: Are you spending time in isolation wards? Be aware! Security personnel might shoot you down in case you escape.

A Crisis Management Committee meeting chaired by Chief District Officer of Parsa Bishnu Kumar Karki has decided to shoot down Coronavirus patients if they are found escaping from the isolation wards.

Decision no. 3 of the meeting said security personnel from now onwards  will remain high alert not to let the Coronavirus patients escape from the isolation wards and can use force to take the escapee under control or even open fire if need be.

The District Administration Office (DAO) took this stricter measure after two infected persons escaped from the isolation ward of Narayani Zonal Hospital on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the meeting has also decided to strictly implement the prohibitory order imposed in the district since May 12 in line with the Local Administration Act.

The meeting has also decided to form a taskforce comprising security officials under the coordination of the District Health Office for contact tracing of the people infected with the novel virus.

Dr Madan Upadhyaya of Narayani Hospital, Assistant CDO Lalit Kumar Basnet of Parsa, Lt. Colonel Madan Jung Rana of Chandi Prasad Battalion of Nepal Army,  SP Ganga Panta of Nepal Police, SP Dibendra Kunwar of Armed Police Force, Assistant Director of National Investigation Department Kumar Khadka and Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City Bijaya Kumar Sarabagi were present in the meeting.
