Health ministry urges media not to reveal identities of infected

KATHMANDU: Ministry of Health and Population on Wednesday has urged media houses not to reveal the identities of COVID-19 infected patients.

Speaking at the regular press briefing today, Dr. Bikash Devkota,  the spokesperson at the Ministry requested the media persons to be more responsible and not to reveal the name of the infected as it can have multiple impacts to the victims and the relatives.

Lately, some of the media had started disclosing the name of the infected patients, which in the name of maintaining the social distance have started boycotting the friends and relatives.

“Without the consent of the victims, the name of the person cannot be published or broadcast”, he said.

He also said that the ministry will reveal the information if deemed essential by the Ministry.
