Number of people visiting hospitals for COVID-19 test increase in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The number of people to undergo test for coronavirus has increased after two persons were tested positive to the COVID-19 in the Kathmandu Valley.

The people especially returned from abroad in recent time have begun visiting hospital for the COVID-19 test.

Five persons have so far been contracted with the coronavirus in the Kathmandu Valley. Director at Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Control Hospital, Dr Sagar Rajbhandari, informed that the number of people visiting the hospital has reached 30 from 15.

As the pressure mounted from the landlords and the community, the persons coming home from abroad are gradually increasing at hospital for the test.

“The latest case of coronavirus in the federal capital has further spread the fear, resulting in increased visits to hospital,” he added.

As the doctor shared those coming to hospital were saying that their landlords were pressing much for them to get tested. The report of the sample test is produced within 24 hours.

Teku-based hospital has expanded the isolation and ICU sections in view of the increased cases of the coronavirus. Currently, there are 25 isolation beds, and 20 ICUs, according to Director Rajbhandari.

Nepal had witnessed the first case of COVID-19 in January 23- on a student returned home from Wuhan, China.

Similarly, the second case was detected on March 23 on a 19-year-old woman returned from France, the third on March 25 and on two others from Sun City Apartment on Tuesday. The latest ones positive to COVID-19 are an 81-year-old woman and 58-year-old man.
