2,038 held for defying lockdown on early Wednesday



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested over 2,000 people on the charge of violating lockdown in the Kathmandu Valley on early Wednesday.

According to police, a total of 2, 038 people were arrested from various places in the capital as of 8 am today.

Police said 1, 563 among those arrested are men while 475 are women. Similarly, 253 vehicles have been taken under control that were used by defying the lockdown.

Police said they are investigating the case and added that they would hold the vehicles till the evening if they were found being used except for emergency cases.

Meanwhile, police have urged people to stay indoors and not come out of their houses unless it is urgent.

The lockdown imposed by the government to stem the novel virus spread has entered 23rd day today. The total number of coronavirus cases has reached 16 in Nepal so far.

With the novel virus cases rising in the country, the government has extended the lockdown until April 27.
