Four nabbed with 2,460 kg sugar



KATHMANDU: Morang Police have seized 2,460 kilograms of sugar smuggled from India in Dhanpalathan Rural Municipality of Morang district.

Police have also arrested four smugglers along with the sugar.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Man Bahadur Rai, Spokesperson of the Morang Police Office, sugar worth Rs 147,000 was seized on Monday evening.

He said that 21-year-old Abhishek Sah of Rangeli Municipality, 19-year-old Rupesh Mandal of Dhanpalathan, 18-year-old Arjun Kumar Mandal and 17-year-old Deepak Kumar Mandal were arrested while transporting sugar.

Police spokesperson Rai said that motorcycles (Ko 1. Pa 5743 and Ko 22. Pa 1644) were also seized from them.

Similarly, the police have also recovered a tractor from Sunvarshi Municipality-7 bordering India along with sugar.

A police team deployed from Police Post Bardanga has stated that a tractor worth around Rs 1.6 million was smuggled in Nepal from India.

At present, the police have handed over four persons including a tractor and sugar smugglers to the Rani Police office at Biratnagar for necessary action, police said.
