PM Oli demands resignation of NCP Chief Whip Gurung

KATHMANDU: At the time when the internal rift in the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has gained a new height, Prime Minister and Parliamentary Party leader KP Oli has sought the resignation of Dev Gurung from the post of Chief Whip.

Sources claimed that Oli summoned Gurung to Baluwatar on Sunday and asked him to tender his resignation.

“Your role and intentions do not seem to help me, so resign as Chief Whip,” the source quoted PM Oli as saying.

After Oli demanded his resignation, Gurung had taken a stand not to resign arguing that he was the Chief Whip as per the party’s decision.

Gurung defended himself by saying that he had played a legal and constitutional role as a Chief Whip.

Gurung has already informed the leaders including Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ after the Prime Minister sought his resignation.
