Railway-hit people demand compensation

JHAPA: Railway-affected people of Province 1 have said that they should be compensated for their land as per the current rate.

Citing that the local municipality and the ward offices were too slow to send the rate as per the running price to the railway department, the locals have warned to hit the streets in the province provided their concern goes unaddressed.

Organizing a province level meeting of Province 1, the affected people have warned to launch the protest against the local representatives at local levels and the railway department.

“Although the railway department wrote to the local levels and asked them to send the current rate of land in the respective places, the ward offices and the municipality have shown indifference to our sufferings and have not submitted the list to the authority,” one of the victims said angrily, “our own representatives have turned deaf ears to our sufferings.”

According to sources, the distribution of compensation previously promised to start from the third week of November has not started yet as the local levels did not send the list to the department.

“The people who have been suffering due to the technical negligence of the Railway Department are suffering further due to the lack of seriousness on the part of the elected representatives,” Dr. Laxmi Prasad Mainali said sadly.

Despite issuing a 35-day notice to the people asking to claim the part of their compensation on May 8, the authority has not been able to solve the technical issues.
