Govt to handover Lukla Airport to local level: Minister Bhattarai

LUKLA: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai has said that Tenzing Hilary Airport of Lukla in Solukhumbu district would be handed over to the local level.

Inaugurating the Tourism Information Center at Khumbu-Pasang Lhyamu Rural Municipality here Sunday, the Minister said that the airport would be handed over to the local government soon as per the latter’s demand by fulfilling legal process.

The Tourism Information Center was developed at the cost of Rs 36.3 million received from the Ministry of Tourism.
On the occasion, Minister Bhattarai urged the locals to welcome tourists by applying health protocols at a time when the tourism sector was paralyzed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Likewise, he announced to provide special training to hoteliers, tour guides, and workers to promote tourism in the Khumbu region.
