Long-haul public transport, domestic flights to resume from Thursday

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to resume domestic flights and long-haul public transport from September 17.

A meeting of Council of Ministers held on Monday evening decided to allow operation of domestic flights and public transport (long-haul, medium and short distances), said government Spokesperson Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali while unveiling Cabinet decision on Tuesday.

Public vehicles will be allowed to operate with only 50 percent capacity and an additional fare of 50 percent can be charged. No decision has been made regarding fare for domestic flights.

Domestic flights and long-route public transport have been suspended after Nepal enforced coronavirus lockdown on March 24.

It should be noted that public transport entrepreneurs have announced operating public vehicles from September 17, accusing the government of failing to address their grievances.
