Nepal confirms 1,459 coronavirus cases in highest single-day spike

KATHMANDU: The country recorded a total of 1,459 new cases of coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, with the recent data, the total number of active cases reached 56,788 in the country.

Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor said that altogether 10,375 sample tests were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours.

According to Dr. Gautam, 1,062 individuals got discharged from the hospitals in the past 24 hours while the number of people winning the battle against the virus reached 40,638 in the country.

One from Okhaldhunga, one from Khotang, six from Jhapa, one from Taplejung, one from Panchthar, one from Bhojpur, 111 from Morang, 17 from Sunsari, six from Dhanusha, one from Parsa, three from Bara, nine from Mahottari, 26 from Rautahat, 24 from Saptari, four from Sarlahi and 162 Siraha were found infected.

Similarly, two from Sindhupalchowk, seven from Kaski, five from Gorkha, nine from Tanahun, 21 from Nawalparasi East, four from Lamjung, 14 from Syangja, three from Arghakhanchi, three from Gulmi, 26 from Dang, three from Nawalparasi, 16 from Palpa, 27 from Banke, 51 from Rupandehi, two from Dailekh, two from Salyan, 23 from Surkhet, eight from Kanchanpur, 11 from Kailali, 11 from Doti, three from Darchula, two from Bajhang and eight from Baitadi have been confirmed to be infected.

Nepal currently has 15,779 active cases, he said.

Dr. Gautam stated that a total of 8,139 people are in institutional isolation and 7,640 others are in home isolation facilities. Likewise, 7,250 people are in quarantine facilities across the country at present.

Similarly, he said that 174 infected ones are receiving treatment in ICU beds and 28 others are on ventilators across the country.

Dr. Gautam shared that Morang, Sunsari, Makwanpur, Sarlahi, Kathmandu, Chitwan, Bhaktapur and Rupandehi districts have 500 plus active cases each.

However, Solukhumbu, Mustang, Myagdi, Dolpa, Mugu and Humla have no active cases.

Likewise, 11 people succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours taking the tally of coronavirus caused deaths in the country to 371, the Ministry confirmed.
