NCP instructs organizations named after leaders to stop activities

KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has instructed the organizations named after leaders not to carry out any activities.

The party issued an inter-party directive to stop the organizations such as foundation, academy and study center from establishing any branch or carrying out activities in provinces, districts and municipals.

The move is said to be an attempt to curtail factionalism in the party.

Such organizations have been opened in the names of Pushpalal, Manmohan Adhikari, Tulsilal Amatya, Madan Bhandari, Jivraj Asrit, Nara Bahadur Karmacharya, Nirmal Lama, Suresh Wagle, Krishna Sen Ichchhuk and Sahana Pradhan among others.

Some of them have opened branches only in the center and others in the districts as well.

In the inter-party directives, it has been mentioned that the Secretariat will form a task force with a clear mandate to determine the operation, management and regulation of the academy.

NCP Standing Committee member Beduram Bhushal said that although it was good to open an academy in the name of a leader, there should be no factionalism that would harm the party.

“Institutions opened in the name of the leader should hold ideological debates to propagate the ideas and ideals of the same leader and discuss the contributions he/she has made,” Bhushal said.

Standing committee member Mani Thapa suggested that the academy should be allowed to engage in non-political activities.
