Over 800 swabs collected from Baglung pending in Pokhara

Baglung gets no report for more than a week now

BAGLUNG: The slackness in PCR test in Gandaki Province has made the life of quarantined people worse as they have not received their PCR report for more than a week despite staying more than 15 days in quarantines.

Quarantines set up by 10 local levels in Baglung have sheltered more than 1,700 India-returnees.

According to the District Health Office Baglung, swab of more than 800 have been taken and sent to Pokhara for PCR test.

However, more than 400 swabs sent one week before have not yet received the reports.

The slackness in tests has affected the management of the quarantine as people who could be sent back after 14 days have to be cared longer.

“We have received numerous complaints related with the complications arising from the lengthy stay in the quarantine. They complain of food scarcity and crunch of manpower,” Suraj Gurau, the chief of Health Office Baglung said.

According him, several local levels have procured the VTMs on their own and collecting the swab to ease the situation.

Gurau added that they have started sending the quarantined people home after RDT test.

The Health Office, Dhaulagiri Hospital, Dhorpatan Municipality and Bareng Rural Municipality have been collecting swabs procuring VTM on their own.

“More than 800 swabs sent for PCR test have been pending,” one of the medics said insisting anonymity. “We have not received any reports for more than a week,” the health worker said.

Meanwhile, according to Gurau, there are around 400 more swabs to be collected in Baglung. The district has reported 40 coronavirus cases so far out of which 8 have returned home after recovery.
