Irish author Hickey wins Walter Scott historical fiction prize

LONDON: Irish writer Christine Dwyer Hickey won the Walter Scott Prize for her historical fiction “The Narrow Land”.

In her novel she has explored the marriage of artists Edward and Jo Hopper.

The prize of £25,000 would normally is awarded at the Borders Book Festival near Melrose.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the winner was announced on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row program.

It is likely that a special event will be held at Scott’s Borders home Abbotsford later this year.
