28 menstruation huts demolished in a single ward

DOTI: A total of twenty-eight chhaugoths (menstruation huts) have been demolished in a single ward of Badikedar rural municipality in Doti under the campaign to demolish chhaugoths.

Chhaugoth is an isolated, poorly ventilated, hut where menstruating women are compelled to stay for at least the first five to seven days.

Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Doti, Dilip Singh Deuba informed that several such chhaugoths have been demolished at ward no 3 of the rural municipality with the support of locals and the police.

The civil code has the provision of three-month imprisonment and Rs 3,000 fine against those keeping women in such huts during menstruation.
