Oli-led govt mired in unprecedented corruption: Nidhi

BHAKTAPUR: Vice President of Nepali Congress (NC) Bimalendra Nidhi has alleged that the Prime Minister KP Oli-led government has been mired in unprecedented corruption in the political history of Nepal.

Speaking at a protest program against the government organized by the Nepali Congress at Suryabinayak in Bhaktapur on Monday, former Deputy Prime Minister Nidhi said the Oli-led government is unprecedentedly corrupt and undemocratic which has been corroborated by the political proposal of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

“It is needless to call the Oli-led government corrupt, worthless and anti-democratic, NCP Executive Chairman Pusha Kamal Dahal’s claim made in his political proposal is sufficient to prove it,” argued Nidhi.

Nidhi, who was invited as the chief guest of the mass demonstration today, went on to say that NCP is against federalism, democracy, inclusiveness, republic, and press freedom.

He alleged that the NCP government which failed to curb the COVID-19 is more fatal to the federal democratic republican parliamentary political system, claiming that it is only the Nepali Congress that ensures democracy, press freedom, federalism and inclusiveness in the country.

He further said that the NCP does not believe in the parliamentary democratic system rather it believes in ‘democratic centralism’ that follows decisions made at higher levels.

Recalling the ‘glorious history’ of the party, Nidhi said the NC had overthrown the despotic Rana regime, partyless Panchayat political system and played a crucial role to abolish the monarchy as they were anti-democratic and autocratic. The NCP is also heading towards the same path and will face the same fate as the autocratic governments suffered in the past, said Nidhi.

Speaking at the protest program, Former Minister of State for Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Central Committee member Sita Gurung said the Oli-led government is intricately involved in institutionalized corruption cases taking advantage of the gentlemanly roles the NC had played following the general elections in 2017.

The NCP government is corrupt as it has been validated by the statements of its own party chairman Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.

“It is not only indulged in corruption, but it has also started attacking the constitutional bodies against the constitution,” alleged Gurung.

That is why the Nepali Congress has taken to the streets to fight the unruliness, atrocities and corruption of the ruling NCP, said Gurung.

Likewise, Central Working Committee member of the NC Rama Paudel said the Oli-led government betrayed the people by misusing their mandate. “The NCP, as presented by the communist leaders, did not live up to the expectation of the people,” said Paudel, adding, “It did not fulfill the promises made during and before the elections.”

Paudel said it laid bare its true characteristics that it rules the country by paying mere lip-services to the people and making tall promises without fulfilling them.

Other NC leaders including Suryabinayak municipality president Bal Krishna Thapa, Nepal Tarun Dal Bhaktapur Raju Thapa among others expressed their views on the occasion.

Earlier, the mass protest rally which started from Srijana Chowk had passed Tinkune, Sallaghari, Chundevi before converging into a mass meeting at Suryabinayak Chowk in Bhaktapur.

Chaired by President of Nepali Congress Bhaktapur District Committee Durlav Thapa, the program was coordinated by Secretary Uddhav Silwal.

Main opposition NC staged mass demonstrations against the government in all the 77 districts in the country on Monday.
