Singer accused of burning Nepal’s flag sent to jail



KATHMANDU: Singer Gyalgen Dorje Tamang arrested for allegedly burning a national flag in a music video has been remanded in prison for trial.

A single bench of Judge Binod Kumar Pokharel at Kathmandu District Court on Monday remanded Tamang to custody.

Earlier, three others arrested for burning the national flag were released on Rs 15,000 bail each. Similarly, five others have been released on general dates.

A music video spreading anti-nationalistic sentiment and provoking violence and unrest in the society had gone viral in YouTube, drawing the attention of the people and demanding the ban and action against the ‘artists’.

Police had then arrested nine people, including the singer and filed a case at the court on Wednesday.
