We all should be thoughtful to safeguard children’s rights: President Bhandari



KATHMANDU: President Bidhya Bhandari has said the government, NGOs, INGOs, child rights activists, guardians and individuals should be thoughtful to secure the future of children.

Issusing a press note on the occasion of Children’s Day on Monday, President Bhandari said the Constitution of Nepal has spelt out the provisions for the protection and promotion of the Children’s rights.

“The Nepal government has ratified various international treaties, agreements expressing its commitments to ensur the children’s rights,” said the press note.

The state has the obligations to effectively implement these provisions in a letter and spirit.

The Nepal government had signed and approved the protocol passed by UN Convention on Child rights on September, 1990.

To commemorate that day Nepal started observing  Bhadra 29 (September 14) as the National Children’s Day since 2063 BS.

The UN general assembly passed the Convention on Child Rights on November 20, 1989 and implemented it on September 2, 1990 AD.

Earlier, the Nepal government used to observe the Children’s Day  on Bhadra 4, accoding to the Nepali time.
