Many feared dead as landslide buries 13 houses in Sindhupalchowk

SINDHUPALCHOWK: As many as 13 houses were buried by a landslide that occurred at Lidi of Jugal rural municipality in Sindhupalchowk district on Friday morning.

According to rural municipality chief Hom Narayan Shrestha, family members of five houses have gone missing after the landslide hit Lidi village at 6 am today.

People of the other houses buried by the landslide have gone to a hillock above the incident site for safety.

A rescue team has not yet reached the incident site due to difficult terrain and there is no other village nearby, said chief Shrestha.

SP Madhav Prasad Kafle of DPO, Sindhupalchowk said a team of police officials has left for the incident site from Kattike but it might take hours to reach since the incident site is far away.

Efforts are underway to carry out rescue operations through a helicopter since the incident site is remote and inaccessible by road, said Shrestha.
