Border outpost established in Chhangru of Darchula

KATHMANDU: A border outpost (BOP) of Armed Police Force (AFP) has been established at Chhangru of Byas rural municipality in Darchula on Wednesday.

A contingent of APF had left for Darchula this morning in connection with setting up an APF’s unit in that area in a bid to secure the border around the Lipu Lekh area.

The BOP, stationed at a rented house, is some 12 kilometers away from the Kalapani, the disputed area in the presence of Armed Police Force AIG Narayan Babu Thapa and Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa’s security advisor Indra Jit Rai.

The 25 APF personnel have been deployed under the leadership of Inspector Mili Bahadur Chand. They were airlifted to Chhangru by a Nepali Army’s MI-17 helicopter.

The APF unit will be mobilized for border security as India unilaterally constructed and inaugurated a link road by encroaching the Nepali territory.

India has constructed a road from Pithoragadh to Lipubhanjyang via Gunji of Kalapani on the Nepal side of the border, connecting Manasarobar of Tibet.

According to the Chief of APF Nepal No. 50 Company, Deputy Superintendent Dambar Bahadur Bishta, the 25-member team would be mobilized under the command of Police Inspector Mili Bahadur Chand.

Although the government had decided to keep a BOP at Chhangru in November last year itself, it could not be implemented till date.
