KATHMANDU: Since the scope of the COVID-19 test has been expanded across the country, more and more COVID-19 patients have been reported totaling the number of COVID-19 patients to 217 as of now.
An additional 83 cases of COVID-19 were reported on Tuesday from various parts of the country making it the highest cases of infection reported in a single day so far.
The test was confirmed in the National Public Health Laboratory in the capital.
According to Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari, Joint Spokesperson of the Ministry, 26 new cases were 6 women aged 22 to 60 and 12 men aged 16 to 61 from Parsa, 2 men aged 16 and 35 from Mahottari, one woman aged 20 and a man of 40 from Dhanusha, a 25-year-old woman and 27-year-old man from Bhaktapur, a 33-year-old woman from Kathmandu and a 45-year-old man from Sarlahi have been diagnosed with coronavirus infection.
Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, 57 cases were reported. The infected are all male, including 8 from Kapilvastu, 9 from Rupandehi, 39 from Parsa, and 1 from Bara districts.
On Monday alone, 24 persons were found to be infected with the deadly flu-like infection.
A spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Bikas Devkota shared that the number of persons infected with COVID-19 was coming to fore, thanks to the increasing number of tests being conduct among the suspected ones.
First reported in Wuhan, China, Nepal recorded the first COVID-19 case on January 23. Among the infected ones and undergoing treatment, 33 persons have fully recovered and discharged from the hospital, according to Dr Devkota.
PCR tests are being conducted in 19 different places while RDT tests are conducted all over 77 districts on the country. The government, presently, is conducting 1,000 tests through PCR procedure and some 2,000 Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) on a daily basis.
Today alone, 2,236 persons have been tested. So far, 18,964 persons have undergone a PCR test while 59,627 have been tested through the RDT procedure.
Pressing for the need to speeding up surveillance on the suspected ones, Dr Devkota viewed that more COVID-19 patients could be reported in the coming days due to the increasing number of tests.
