Minister Pun appeals to invest in Nepal’s hydropower sector

KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Barshaman Pun has urged the international community to invest in Nepal’s hydropower sector.

Speaking at the 10th session of the assembly of International Renewable Energy Agency (IREA) in Abu Dhabi, Minister Pun claimed of an environment that is conducive for investments with the political stability in the country.

Stating that promoting investment in hydropower as per public private partnership was the incumbent government’s policy, Minister Pun urged foreign investors to invest in Nepal with confidence.

He also urged the IREA to support in inviting more investment in Nepal and requested to help in establishment of effective and cheap technology producing power, constructing transmission line and distributing power.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates has expressed the commitment to provide concessional loan to the Nepal Government’s efforts of producing energy from waste.

Minister Pun, who is currently on UAE visit, informed that the UAE is to provide Rs 1.13 billion concessional loan for waste-to-energy project.
