17 teachers in Surkhet test positive for COVID-19



SURKHET: As many as 17 teachers have tested positive for COVID-19 in Surkhet.

A test conducted at Karnali State Hospital/Veterinary Disease Investigation Laboratory, Surkhet, confirmed the infection in 17 teachers.

“According to the report received on Sunday, 17 teachers in the district have been diagnosed with symptoms,” said Chetan Nidhi Wagle, head of the Public Health Office, Surkhet.

Chief of the Municipal Health Branch Gangadev Puri said that 11 teachers of Suryaprakash Secondary School, Palate in Panchpuri Municipality have been infected. Two teachers of Vidya Jyoti Secondary School, Babiyachaur have also been infected.

Likewise, 13 teachers have been tested positive out of 39 teachers of two schools. Teachers’ PCR tests were performed after showing similar symptoms to corona.

Two teachers of Nepal National Secondary School and one teacher of Janasewa Basic School in Gurbhakot Municipality of Surkhet have also been diagnosed positive for coronavirus.

According to Padam BK, head of municipal education department, the swab was collected after the teachers showed similar symptoms to coronavirus.

Another infected teacher is from Birendranagar Municipality, but the full details of the teacher have not been revealed yet, District Public Health Chief Wagle said.

The municipality had allowed the schools to conduct the classes by adopting the standards of health safety as prescribed by the direct learning facilitation guideline.

Accordingly, most of the schools were reopened after the festival. Recently, the schools have been closed due to the infection of coronavirus in the teachers.

The schools in Gurbhakot Municipality had started teaching from the first week of November. However, the school was closed after the teachers started showing signs of infection, said Padam BK, head of municipal education.

Tulasi KC, head of the education department, said that they have requested to stay in isolation until the report of the people who have collected the swabs is received.
