PCR test compulsory to health workers, industry workers

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has directed the hospitals to compulsorily manage PCR tests to the frontline health workers in the wake of increasing the spread of coronavirus.

Ministry Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam informed that the hospitals were directed to ensure PCR tests among the doctors, nurses and health workers to ensure unobstructed service to the public. Even the doctors, nurses and health workers are also found positive for the coronavirus of late.

Similarly, the Ministry has urged the shopping mall, restaurant, hotel and industry to conduct PCR tests for their employees. Such direction was issued in the wake of growing cases of COVID-19 among the people and those coming in their contact in the big cities in recent days. The employing agencies will conduct the tests on their own, Dr. Gautam added.

Dr. Gautam has appealed to everyone to maintain adequate safety measures and not to leave home except the emergency case.

No transmission from dead body

Ministry Spokesperson Dr. Gautam reiterated that coronavirus does not transmit from the dead body. However, if the fluid emanated from the dead boy is touched by hand and the hand not sanitized, it spreads the infection. So, those attending the funeral rites must wash hands, use gloves and wear masks.

He strongly urged everyone not to touch and embrace the dead body.
