Odd-even system to be abided by all till further notice: DAO Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Administration Office has made it clear that all vehicles except the government pass bearer have to abide by the odd-even rule unless a further decision is made on the issue.

The motorcycle riders as well as the police were greatly confused on Friday whether the odd-even number rule was applicable to all vehicle users.

Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Janak Raj Dahal said the confusion would be cleared soon by issuing a separate guideline but the rule has to be abided by all till another guideline comes.

According to SSP Bhim Dhakal, the traffic policemen in the capital this morning put on hold over 1,000 two-wheelers for carrying pillion rider and also for not abiding by the odd and even number provision, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhim Dhakal said.

The Cabinet meeting held on June 10 had not specified whether the odd and even number provision was also for the two-wheelers.

SSP Dhakal said that because of the confusion, the traffic did not allow the two-wheelers bearing odd plate numbers ply along the valley road this morning.

He added that the private four-wheelers except for those of essential services are also prohibited from plying from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

According to SSP Dhakal the District Administration Office is also notified about the confusion and requested to resolve it.

The odd and even number plate provision will not be applicable to those vehicles which possess the pass issued by the government, the district administration office sources said.
