KATHMANDU: The Non-resident Nepalis Association regional coordinators have urged the Government of Nepal to rescue Nepalis stranded in various countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic as soon as possible. Many Nepalis including those who lost their job and those abroad for various reasons remain stranded due to internal lockdown and closure in air service.
NRNA regional coordinators in US, middle-east, Europe and Africa have issued a joint statement calling for facilitated rescue of the Nepalis. It may be noted that the government has already started repatriating Nepalis from Myanmar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
US coordinator Rajan Tripathi, Europe coordinator Narayan Acharya, Middle East coordinator Prabin Gurung and Africa coordinator Roshan Thapa have urged to rescue both who can afford and who cannot afford the airfare. They suggested utilizing the foreign employment welfare fund to rescue the migrant workers who have become penniless due to the lockdown.
They have also drawn the attention of the government towards some travel operators seeking undue profits even at this point of crisis and sorrow. The quarantine, accommodation and transportation to home should also be carried out by the government in a facilitated and efficient manner. RSS
