‘35,000 trekking guides lose jobs during lockdown’



KATHMANDU: Trekking Guides Association of Nepal has demanded with the government to provide relief claiming that 35,000 trekking guides lost their jobs during the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

Officer bearers of Trekking Guides Association of Nepal on Friday reached the office of Nepal Tourism Board and submitted a demand letter.

General Secretary of the Association Sarki Sherpa said the government should provide Rs 1 million to 1.5 million in subsidized loan to each trekking guide until the tourism profession comes into normal.

He further said that all the trekking guides have lost their jobs and are struggling to manage hand-to-mouth problems, currently.
