KATHMANDU: 26 more people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in Nepal on Tuesday taking the tally to 217.
A total of 83 cases have been reported in a single day on Tuesday. It should be noted that Nepal had recorded 24 cases in a single day on Monday. The alarming infection cases of Tuesday include three new cases in the capital city Kathmandu.
The test was confirmed in the National Public Health Laboratory in the capital.
According to Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari, Joint Spokesperson of the Ministry, 6 women aged 22 to 60 and 12 men aged 16 to 61 from Parsa, 2 men aged 16 and 35 from Mahottari, one woman aged 20 and a man of 40 from Dhanusha, a 25-year-old woman and 27-year-old man from Bhaktapur, a 33-year-old woman from Kathmandu and a 45-year-old man from Sarlahi have been diagnosed with coronavirus infection.
Earlier today, 57 cases were reported this afternoon. All 57 infected cases are male, including 8 from Kapilvastu, 9 from Rupandehi, 39 from Parsa, and 1 from Bara districts.
Parsa is one of the ‘hotspots’ of the pandemic. Dr. Udaya Narayan Singh at Narayani Hospital, Birgunj told Khabarhub that it can be said that the coronavirus infection has spread in the community in Parsa.
According to Dr. Singh, the process of throat swab test collection in Parsa is still going on. Therefore, the number of infected people may increase further.
Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control Division Dr. Basudev Pandey says that the number of COVID-10 cases could increase further in Nepal.
He said, “The number of infected people can increase as people have been entering Nepal from India without any restrictions.”
Pandey said that it will be known whether the coronavirus has spread in the community or not only after the completion of contact tracing.
“Health workers are now conducting contact tracing in areas where the infection has been found,” said Dr. Pandey, “Therefore, it cannot be said that the infection has spread in the community without completing the work.”
According to Spokesperson Bikash Devkota, 18,964 tests have been conducted by the PCR method and 59,627 by RDT so far. Similarly, additional 2,236 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours.
He said that 228 people have been currently isolated, adding that one person is in isolation in the Kathmandu Valley and 227 outside the Valley.
According to him, 25 people are in isolation in Province-1. Of them, 19 are infected and six are suspected patients, 80 people are in isolation in Province 2, out of which 68 are infected and 12 are suspected and 25 people are in isolation in Bagmati, out of which 24 are suspected and one is infected.
Similarly, in Province 5, out of 98 people in isolation, 28 are suspected and 70 are infected.
Likewise, 12,785 people have been quarantined across the country.
