Govt enhances vigilance on border



KATHMANDU: The government has mobilized the Armed Police Force (APF) on Nepal-India border to make lockdown more effective.

Some 6,000 APF personnel are mobilized at the border area after the entry of Nepalis via clandestine route continued in the wake of the coronavirus spread.

Border points have been closed and people’s movement is banned by both the countries.

Crisis Management Centre of Nepal Army informed that the APF was reinforced with additional human resources to make lockdown effective.

Spokesperson at Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Bikas Devkota, said the border security was beefed up to check people’s movement so that chance of spreading COVID-19 would subside.

As three more cases of COVID-19 infection were reported in Birgunj today, the government has hinted at mobilizing additional security forces.

The security persons are mobilized with robust coordination, it was informed.

Meanwhile, it was informed that a total of 2,230 Nepalis were in quarantine in India.

They could come to Nepal after two-week stay in quarantine. Even after the return, they need to stay on home quarantine. Similarly, a total of 661 Indians are in quarantine in Nepal currently.

According to Ministry Spokesperson Dr Devkota, the security agencies had provided the information that as many as 57,000 people violated the lockdown.
