KATHMANDU: A meeting of House of Representatives has been slated at 1 pm on Sunday.

The meeting of Parliament was postponed till today after the leaders of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had remained as odds on the selection of a new Speaker.

It is unclear if the meeting will be held as the party is yet to pick a candidate for a new Speaker.

If the meeting convenes, the process of electing the Speaker will begin today. If the meeting would not be scrapped then the filing of nomination for the post and fixation of the election date would be announced.

The post is vacant since October 1, 2019, after Krishna Bahadur Mahara resigned.

Earlier on Saturday, NCP had requested Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe to step down. However, she is not for quitting anytime soon.
