Two held for assaulting TU assistant professor Chalaune



KATHMANDU: Two individuals have been arrested on the charge of assaulting Prem Chalaune, an assistant professor at Trihuvan University.

Acting on a tip-off, a police squad arrested Rupesh Sah and Rabin Lama from Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur and Siraha respectively, said SSP Shyam Gyawali, chief of Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu.

They are the students of Tri Chandra Campus. Both of them are from Siraha district.

On October 6, an irate group of Nepal Student Union (NSU) assaulted Prem Chalaune, the assistant professor at the Central Department of Sociology, with an iron rod.

Chalaune was ruthlessly attacked by the  mob while he was heading to the Central Department of Sociology from Nepal Bank Ltd branch located on the TU premises. Chalaune had sustained critical injuries in the attack.

NSU cadres have been staging a protest over the appointment of the head at the Central Department of Sociology, Kirtipur.

Professor Yuba Raj Luitel is the incumbent head of the Central Department of Sociology.

NSU has been demanding that Tika Gautam should be inducted as the head of the department.
