11 missing as landslide washes away houses in Sankhuwasabha

SANKHUWASABHA: A total of 11 people are missing after a landslide at Besinda village in Silichong Rural Municipality-1 of Sankhuwasabha district washed away seven houses on Sunday morning.

Three people were rescued from the landslide triggered by incessant rainfall last night, said ward Chair Ram Bahadur Kulung.

The landslide also damaged the ward office building and the local health post.

The rain has not stopped in the area thus impeding rescue efforts. The security force is yet to reach the site and further details of the loss from the disaster are awaited, Sankhuwasabha’s Police Chief Nawaraj Malla said.

It is said a police squad has already been deployed to the affected area.
