88 killed, 32 missing in monsoon-induced disasters so far



KATHMANDU: The country has suffered a big loss of life and property in the 29 days since the monsoon became active this year. The most damage has been caused by floods and landslides.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), 19 districts have been affected the most by flood and landslide.

Eighty-eight people have lost their lives while 32 are unaccounted for in incidents related to flood and landslide in the 29 days since the monsoon became active.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation works are on in the disaster-hit areas.

Myagdi, Sindhupalchok, Parbat, Bajhang, Kaski, Jajarkot, Palpa, Lamjung and Gulmi districts have suffered the most loss of human lives. The other districts suffering human casualties from the disaster are Jhapa, Chitwan, Salyan, Kalikot, Surkhet, Gorkha, Syangja, Baglung, Doti and Darchula.

Myagdi district reported the highest death toll due to the disaster. Twenty-seven people lost their lives to landslide in this district and the highest number of people going missing in a landslide is in Sindhupalchok. Twenty people are missing in Sindhupalchok.

Various districts in the Tarai are suffering inundation and erosion, NDRRMA said.
