Nepal’s revised map is permanent: Foreign Minister Gyawali

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali has reiterated the government of Nepal’s stance that the revised new map would be permanent and will not be changed.

Minister Gyawali said the map has been revised and brought on thebasis of consensus among Nepal’s all political forces.

In an interview with India Today TV, Minister Gyawali said next week there will be a formal amendment of the constitution which will then be approved by the President.

He added that Nepal’s decision to revise the map came after India made changes to its map soon after the ‘reorganisation’ of Jammu and Kashmir on November 2, 2019.

Minister Gyawali, however, reiterated the government’s stance of holding dialogue with India to settle the dispute concerning the Lipu Lekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura.

He said that India is yet to respond to the government of Nepal’s letter regarding the start of foreign secretaries-level meeting.

Minister Gyawali, meanwhile, said both the embassies are active to open up formal communications, according to India TV.

He further asked if India can hold talks with China on border issues during the Covid-19 pandemic, why can’t it hold talks with Kathmandu.
