Govt to fence public land with barbed wire

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation has said it will fence the government and public land with barbed wire to stop encroachment.

Issuing a guideline on the protection of public and government land on Thursday, the government adopted a policy to stop the public land encroachment in coordination with the local units.

The ministry has entrusted the local units to protect public land in coordination with the district administration office, survey department and land revenue office.

The guideline has stated that the survey department and land revenue office must cooperate with the local units to clearly demarcate government and public lands.

Such lands should be fenced with barbed wire or walls and a board should be hung showing the area of the protected land, according to the guideline.

The district administration office will file a case against those who encroach such lands in line with the law.
